Dr. Hommel received his Ph.D. in Integrative Biology and Neuroscience from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. After completing a postdoctoral fellowship at Duke University Medical Center, Dr. Hommel worked in the private pharmaceutical industry developing research methods for motivational behavior while employed as an Investigator for GlaxoSmithKline.
Dr. Hommel is interested in the interrelated biological system operations between behavior, obesity, and addiction. Studying this “overlap” may provide insight into the basis of addiction and obesity and lead to innovative therapeutic development to treat these disorders. Dr. Hommel is appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Texas Medical Branch.
